Join Kevin and Laura for the ultimate mashup experience as they combine restorative yoga, live cello music, and acupuncture to fully relax your entire mind and body. For the first part of the workshop, Kevin will be teaching restorative yoga while Laura plays cello looped and manipulated through her computer to take you deeper into your experience. Towards the end, the cello loop hits an ambient drone allowing Laura (licensed acupuncturist of Root & Bloom) to place acupuncture needles in all participants in the restorative nest in which Kevin leaves you for savasana. It's been said the timbre of the cello is the closest of all instruments to the human voice, and Kulis do love to listen to Kevin murmur in his dulcet baritone, so this workshop is basically guaranteed to provide an express ticket to a state of bliss.
About Laura: Laura is a musician and licensed acupuncturist. A frequent collaborator in a range of styles, her solo performances combine her love of chamber with electronic music. Wielding her cello, computer and voice, she weaves ornate yet organic compositions that range from ambient and free-flowing to beat driven and glitchy. She holds a B.M in music performance from Northwestern University and her MSTOM from Pacific College of Health and Science. She is a licensed and board certified acupuncturist and herbalist and practices at her clinic in the West Village, Root & Bloom Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.
About Kevin: I started practicing yoga up in boston in my late teens, immediately after a period of massive (less than healthy) weight loss, and just before I (finally) came out of the closet. As I struggled to adapt to a new physical and emotional reality, yoga provided a pathway to organize the chaos. Over the past eighteen years of study, the practice has continued to be my saving grace.
After moving to NYC and working on and off-Broadway for a while, a pesky bedbug infestation sent me back to Boston to complete my RYT-200 training with Chanel Luck and Bonnie Argo (Radiant Yoga). When the dust settled, Kula and I moved to Williamsburg the same summer and the rest, as they say, is history. Massive gratitude to Schuyler, Nikki V., Alex, Erin, Jillian, and all the other rad senior teachers of Kula who whipped me into proper shape and showed me the ropes. Endless, endless pranams to Nikki Costello and her 300-hour advanced teacher training that transformed my teaching and life.
My classes are a laboratory for everything that confuses or fascinates me. a little Iyengar-inspired alignment and a few Forrest Yoga poses usually end up in every sequence. In the end, I teach in the hopes that my offering affords my students the same benefits and opportunities for growth that I've received from my teachers.
